The eighth annual triples organised by The City of Bath Pétanque Club and sponsored by the Raven Pub was a sell out with 32 teams having signed up weeks before the tournament
With the location of Queen Square as the background, the tournament commenced in the morning with each team playing four games and those teams finishing in the top 16 to entering the championship with the remaining teams competing for the plate.
The main competition was won by SCABS (Star Cottage Amateur Boule Society) comprising of Ian Rushton, Peter Moreland and Mike Dodd. On only their second appearance at the Bath Open they defeated the Good, Bad & Ugly (James Harris, Max Liddington and John Davis) in an entertaining and hard fought final. In addition to winning the cup, SCABS also received a voucher for dinner at Brassiere Blanc.
The plate competition was contested by 2 new teams to the open and was eventually won by Reside who overcame a spirited challenge from Saxons 1.
Landlady of the Raven, Jill Forsey, said: “We are very happy to be part of this event, which is great fun and will benefit the community in Bath.”
Club chairman, Martin Ellis added: “We receive great support from the public in raising the awareness of Pétanque both in and around the city. Additionally we would also like to thank the local business for their on-going support, in particular the Raven Pub for their sponsorship and Tilley’s Bistro who prepare and serve the lunch.
The event continues to raise money for new facilities and development of the club and with fundraising events like this we will be able to provide more opportunities for everyone to enjoy.”
